Navaratri Celebration In Kelantan 8 -17 Oct 2010
As the great Hindu sage Sri Ramakrishna has said, "There can be as many spiritual paths as there are spiritual aspirants, and as many Gods as there are devotees." One of the hallmarks of Hindu spirituality is the worship of this infinite diversity of the One Unknowable God in a multiplicity of forms. Festival such as Navarathri reverence of Goddess Durga (Maa Durga) who exists in many forms and is the manifestation of the absolute energy that pervades the Universe. Navratri is a festival of Hindus celebrated with devotion, love and fervour all over India. It is also called as Navratras. The mood of Navratri is very colourful & unique. Navratri basically means "Nine Nights" ("Nav" meaning nine and "Ratri" meaning nights). During these days and nights prayers are offered to Mother Goddess. For the devout these days are days when Goddess Durga takes a stock of her devotees and grants all blessings, removes ills and evils and ensures unproblematic life for her devotees. She is also referred to as "Devi" (goddess) or "Shakti" (energy or power). It is this energy, which helps God to proceed with the work of creation, preservation and destruction. In other words, you can say that God is motionless, absolutely changeless, and the Divine Mother Durga, does everything. Truly speaking, our worship of Shakti re-confirms the scientific theory that energy is imperishable. It cannot be created or destroyed. It is always there. We think this energy is only a form of the Divine Mother, who is the mother of all, and all of us are her children. "Why mother; why not father?", you may ask. Let me just say that we believe that God's glory, his cosmic energy, his greatness and supremacy can best be depicted as the motherhood aspect of God. Just as a child finds all these qualities in his or her mother, similarly, all of us look upon God as mother. Hinduism gives so much importance to the mother aspect of God because we believe that mother is the creative aspect of the absolute.
In Kelantan, Navaratri festival was celebrated in almost all the Temples(Arulmigu Siva Subramaniam Alayam Kota Bharu,Maha Mariamman Temple Kerilla Estate, Lakshmi Mantralaya Kota Bharu and Kuala Krai Hindu Temple from 8/10/2011 to 17/10/2010. Religious discourses were held in conjunction with Navaratri festival. Since opening, every Thursday special prayers with blissful bajan will be held in the centre .During interview Sathya said the best reaction that I ever felt in my body is the day I put my step in to the temple of Shirdi Sai Baba –Nagasai Temple in Indian settlement Batu Caves ,Selangor. Now he is fully surrendered to Shirdi Baba and have learn a lot about Baba. He realise the important role he need to play in the development and propagation of the Shirdi Sai Baba messages. After visit to almost all the Shirdi Sai Centres in Malaysia,he come up with the idea of opening new centre at his home town Kota Bharu.According to Sathya the centres mission is to celebrate the life and teachings of Baba in order to help people in their spiritual quest and and vision is to spread Baba’s message of love, kindness, unity and make a meaningful contribution to the welfare of society. The practices that Shirdi Sai Baba's devotees use in worshiping him in Kota Bharu centre are mainly traditional Hindu practices such as puja, singing and repeating his name, worshipping his feet (which is a common practice in Hinduism), going on pilgrimage to Shirdi, singing arati or reciting a mantra (Om Sai Namo Namah,Sri Sai Namo Namah,Jaya Jaya Sai Namo Namah,Satguru Sai Namo Namah). Guru poornima is another auspicious day celebrated by Sai devotees in this centre. It is told that Brahma “gyanam “ can't be achieved without a guru's help. Kerilla KarumariAmman Temple by Chandran Renugopal
This temple is situated near to river in Kerilla Estate,Tanah Merah Kelantan. It was started in the 1920’s to accommodate the growing number of Hindu immigrants from South India and is one of the few Karumariamman temple in Malaysia . As the Tamil saying goes “Kovil Ilatha Uril Kudi Irukke Kudathu”, Kerila Estate residents those days under leadership of Nadeson Pathar built this temple. Nadeson Pathar had taken a considerable amount of his time and effort to develop this previous empty piece of land into a spiritual architectural delight. The temple started in a small wooden hut, but has transformed into a well-designed brick structure due to the efforts of Kerilla Estate residents. The temple is located in the midst of palm oil and rubber plantations, and is rather secluded. Although the temple does not have an easy access route, it is definitely worth the journey. Hence, it is ideal for meditation and spiritual contemplation. Over the years, many devotees of this temple have witnessed the amazing sakthi of Karumariamman. The most important date in this temple is Andu Villa, whereby a special pooja is conducted annually. Initially, the only visitors to the temple were estate residents(Kerilla Estate,Sokor Estate, New Camp,Tako Estate and other nearby estates) and Hindus of Kelantan origin whom staying in Kelantan and out of Kelantan. But this has changed now, Hindus of all states visit the temple especially during festive season. These ardent devotees would break a coconut and light camphor.
AUSPICIOUS DAYS: Thaipoosam, Andu Villa and Kullu Uthrum Thiruvilla.
